Investigating the Dominant Environmental Quenching Process in UVCANDELS/COSMOS Groups

Abstract We explore how the fraction of quenched galaxies changes in groups with respect to distance center group, redshift, and stellar mass determine dominant process environmental quenching 0.2 < z 0.8 groups. use new UV data from UVCANDELS project addition existing multiband photometry derive galaxy physical properties group zCOSMOS 20 k catalog. Limiting our analysis a complete sample log ( M * / ⊙ ) > 10.56 galaxies, we find that probability being increases slowly decreasing diverging stagnant field population. A corresponding on time within suggests is characterized by slow (∼Gyr) timescales. approximately 4.91 − 1.47 + 0.91 Gyr, consistent processes strangulation delayed-then-rapid although more are needed confirm this result.
